Geta Bratescu: Drawings with the Eyes Closed

by

"Looks like the artist did that with her eyes closed." We've all heard this one before, but this time it's literal fact rather than smartass commentary from the peanut gallery. The new exhibit Geta Bratescu: Drawings with the Eyes Closed assembles the Romanian artist's drawings, artist's book and an essential video. The centerpiece of the show is a series of diptychs called Capricio (Whims), which depict humans, animals and assorted shapes overlaid on Bratescu's handwriting -- the kicker being that she drew all these with her eyes closed. Themes of chance, play and serial strategies resolve into view.
