Get Your Goat

Love can be a tricky thing. When a man loves a woman, as the song goes, there are usually a few attributes that initially sparked his interest. If she's cute, loyal, and fun, that's the hat-trick of attractiveness. And if she's a pro at lawn maintenance, that's a match! Playwright Edward Albee's The Goat, or Who Is Sylvia? is a story about love. The Goat centers on a middle-aged man trapped in the middle-aged tale, who happens upon a goat with whom he begins his life's great romantic journey. And though the stark bestiality is an interesting plot twist, the play explores all of love's "forbidden" corners: homosexuality, infidelity, pedophilia, incest. It's a thinker! And, obviously, not the best way to introduce children to the business we call show. St. Louis Actors' Studio presents The Goat at 8 p.m. Thursday through Saturday and at 3 p.m. Sunday (January 18 through February 3) at the Gaslight Theater (358 North Boyle Avenue; 314-458-2978 or www.stlas.org). Tickets are $25 to $30.
Thursdays-Sundays. Starts: Jan. 18. Continues through Feb. 3, 2013
