Get Some Strange

The good news about this stage of the year is the weather; the even better news is that we're in the midst of some of the best weather you can have -- late summer mellowing into autumn. Glorious stuff indeed, and perfect for a nice big outdoor affair like the Strange Folk Festival. On Saturday and Sunday (September 24 and 25) the free event sprawls across the tree-covered Community Park (401 East Fifth Street, O'Fallon, Illinois; 618-624-0139 or www.strangefolkfestival.com) from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. with more than 150 vendors from around the country purveying indie crafts from jewelry to one-of-a-kind stuffed animals to unique leather masks, as well as assorted foodstuffs. There will also be lots of music and varied kids' activities, and the good folks of Tenth Life Cats and Southern Illinois Animal Rescue are toting critters in who'll be hoping for loving homes. This will be the ideal weekend to be strange, folks.
