Get Some Class!

The Missouri Botanical Garden (4344 Shaw Boulevard) has more than just flowers and Chihuly glass going on: This beautiful cultural institution also offers fantastic, affordable adult-education classes on topics ranging from photography to cooking, from garden tours to gardening tips. On Saturday, August 26, from 10 a.m. to noon, you can study Photo Basics with Scott Avetta; this beginning snapshot course costs $35. Or perhaps you'd prefer to take some of the garden home with you — in that case, Handmade Papermaking is for you. During this $55 lesson, which happens from 9 a.m. to noon on Saturday, September 16, you will learn how to incorporate plants into your paper, and you will make some sheets to take. But what about those cooking classes, you ask? Check out Rustic Indian Cooking, a $38 culinary session taught by a mother-daughter team (on Wednesday, September 13, from 7 to 9 p.m.); Speed Scratch Cooking, which also costs $38 (Tuesday, October 10, from 10 a.m. to noon); and Making and Cooking with Ricotta Cheese, offered on Monday, September 18, from 7 to 9 p.m. ($38). Not all of the courses are one-day sessions; some last for several weeks. The final class on this schedule is offered in December.
