Gateway Drug Release Show

2 p.m. Saturday, January 14. Apop Records, 2831 Cherokee Street.

The 21st century can be a rough place for the DIY community. As the Internet pervades our daily existence, we find more people investing less time in a never-ending search through ephemeral music media. Why go to a show when you can check out a band in less than ten seconds? That's where Luc Michalski comes in. As proprietor of the Gateway Drug blog, zine and compilation tape — celebrating the release of its third installment here — Michalski promotes a wide spectrum of local DIY artists in a multiplatform dissemination of information. By bridging the gap between disassociated local musicians with a similar ethic, Gateway Drug remains a consistent curatorial portal into local DIY culture.

Know Your Scene: Performances from featured GWD #3 artists including Union Electric, Shaved Women and Googolplexia will bring the zine and compilation tape to life.
