Gantz

comment
Kei Kurono and Masaru Kato are two young Japanese guys who try to do a good deed -- save a drunk who has fallen onto the train tracks -- and end up run over by the train for their trouble. Instead of passing on to a peaceful afterlife of harps 'n' clouds, the pair find themselves in a modern apartment occupied by a mysterious black orb. The orb offers them the opportunity to equip themselves with ultra-high tech weaponry and fight aliens back in the real world -- but is this reality, an amazing simulacrum of the real world, or a game? No one knows, except for maybe the orb, which they come to know by the name Gantz. The popular manga comes to the big screen in a highly-anticipated live-action film starring Kazunari Ninomiya and Kenichi Matsuyama. The English-dubbed version of Gantz debuts nationwide in a special simulcast event tonight at 7 p.m. at Regal St. Louis Mills Stadium 18 (5555 St. Louis Mills Boulevard, Hazelwood; 314-227-5500 or www.fathomevents.com). Tickets are $12.50, and both actors participate in a post-film live interview -- you hardcore fans will want to stick around for that.
