Funky Butt Brass Band Christmas Show

9 p.m. Saturday, December 18. Off Broadway, 3509 Lemp Avenue.

For the brass-masters and beat-keepers in the Funky Butt Brass Band, every day is a holiday. The band's music — which is derived from New Orleans' second-line heritage but infused with all manner of funk, soul and jazz traditions — is eternally festive no matter the season. But during the Christmas holidays, the band lends its syncopated strut to the seasonal songbook. Ben Reece's vibrant tenor sax, Adam Hucke's bright, high-flying trumpet, Aaron Chandler's boisterous trombone and Matt Brinkmann's booming sousaphone combine (and sometimes compete) with one another during inventive, interactive sets. Expect some funky originals and creative covers amid the hard-bopping Christmas tunes during the band's second annual "Brasstravaganza."
