From Plant to Page

Computer-generated art has supplanted quite a bit of the work formerly done by illustrators and graphic artists, but when it comes to depicting the intricacies of plant life, an artist's touch is still needed. Artist and scientific illustrator Yevonn Wilson-Ramsey discusses "The Art of Scientific Illustration" at 12:15 p.m. at the J.C. Penney Conference Center on the University of Missouri-St. Louis campus (1 University Drive at Natural Bridge Road; 314-516-5699 or ce.umsl.edu). Besides providing a brief history of botanical illustration, Wilson-Ramsey will cover current techniques and, if time allows, will discuss her personal work, which is influenced by her love of science and environmental issues. Admission is free, and you're welcome to bring a lunch.
