Fresh Fest '09

8 p.m. Friday, Sept. 25. The Pageant, 6161 Delmar Boulevard.

A quarter-century ago, hip-hop's first major package tour — featuring Run-DMC, Kurtis Blow and Whodini — helped put rap on the map. The tradition continues this fall with beatboxer Doug E. Fresh and British-born, Bronx-raised rhymer Slick Rick, two contemporaries of the original Fresh Fest-ers. Perhaps best known for their work on Fresh's immortal 1985 single, "The Show," and its B-side, "La-Di-Da-Di," the Human Beat Box and the Ruler will be joined by fellow '80s stars Rob Base and E-Z Rock, creators of the club classics "It Takes Two" and "Joy and Pain."
