Brace yourself, St. Louis: PROJECT: Comic Con is in full effect this weekend. This celebration of comic books -- and the people who make them and the people who read them -- takes place from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday and Sunday (September 21 and 22) at the Westport Sheraton Lakeside Chalet (I-270 and Page Avenue, Maryland Heights; www.projectcomiccon.com). Guests scheduled to attend include Chris Samnee, Jenny Frison, Angus Oblong and Jim Mahfood. There will be panel discussions for aspiring artists as well as writers, a dealers room, cosplay and even a canned food drive. The cherry on the cake is the Live Art After Party hosted by the pride of South County, Jim and Dan "DJ Mahf" Mahfood at 9 p.m. Saturday. If you've never been to a live art show, this is the best possible introduction. DJ Mahf works the turntables while Jim creates mural-sized art in response to what his brother's spinning. You know what they say: Ain't no party like a Mahfood party. Tickets to PROJECT: Comic Con are $15 to $75. The after party is free.
