Flower Power

When you first think of sculpture, your mind might be weighted down by thoughts of the behemoth works that fill public spaces around town. You could say Rain Harris thinks big, too, but in a far different way. Her ceramic pieces on display at the Duane Reed Gallery (4729 McPherson Avenue; 314-361-4100 or www.duanereedgallery.com) speak in volumes of delicate detail -- her hand is so light with the flower clusters she creates, it's almost as if no human hand was involved in their inception at all. Well, except for the fact that these precise, paper-thin petals aren't colored in soft pastels as you might expect, but instead, often keep to the monochromatic black or white, speaking to Harris' thoughtful questions of taste (refined or otherwise), decor and excess. To explore Harris' vision, visit the gallery during the free opening reception -- held from 5 to 8 p.m. on Friday, February 28 -- or anytime before Saturday, March 29. Duane Reed Gallery is open Tuesday through Saturday.
Fri., Feb. 28, 5-8 p.m.; Tuesdays-Saturdays, 10 a.m.-5 p.m. Starts: Feb. 28. Continues through March 29, 2014
