Fight Hunger

You can do it

Hunger is not a matter to be taken lightly; in our city alone, many people go without proper sustenance each day. But fighting hunger can be fun — if you just get off your can and head to the St. Louis Mills (5555 St. Louis Mills Boulevard, Hazelwood; 314-227-5555 or any time from Thursday, March 8, through Tuesday, March 20. For that week and a half, you will have the chance to view various Canstruction works created by teams led by architects and engineers. Now, these designs, which are made completely of canned goods, aren't your basic boring buildings; this international competition's most impressive winning works last year depicted a half-peeled banana, a cobra and a mermaid. (See to check out these and more.) Today is as good a day as any to see what this year's "can"tenders have come up with and to donate some cans to the cause. The fun is free, and the foodstuffs help out locally when the displays come down.
