Feel Us Shaking

When done well, theater can stir up all kinds of emotions. It can prompt laughter, it can evoke tears, and occasionally, it can make us contemplative. Other times, theater can even make a plea for change, such as is the case with Gitana Productions' latest original play. Faultlines tells the story of Niragha, who left India with her new husband to begin married life in America. Away from her friends, family and everything familiar, she falls victim to physical and emotional abuse at the hands of her husband. With nowhere to go in an unfamiliar place, this young woman struggles with what to do next. For Niragha, this can be a turning point in her life, as it can be for audience members, too, with this all-too-common plight gently encouraging us all to consider how we can reach out and offer a support system to every member of our community, not just to our friends. Faultlines is presented at 8 p.m. Friday and Saturday and at 2:30 p.m. Sunday (May 20 through June 5) at the Cardinal Rigali Center (20 Archbishop May Drive, Shrewsbury). Shows are selling out, so be sure to make ticket reservations in advance at or call 314-721-6556; tickets cost $18 to $20.
Fridays-Sundays. Starts: May 20. Continues through June 5, 2011
