Faith in Dance

Dance is more than mere performance -- it’s a means of nonverbal communication, wherein lies its beauty. We can more easily deal with subjects that may be difficult to discuss -- and learn a bit about our own views -- when topics are presented to us on the stage. Forces of Nature Dance Theatre Company proves this point when it presents Eclipse: Visions of the Crescent and the Cross, a dance concert that takes a look at both the differences and similarities between Christianity and Islam through modern and West African dance and through ballet. You can explore these sometimes-at-odds religions with the company at the Center of Creative Arts (524 Trinity Avenue, University City) at 7:30 p.m. Friday and Saturday (May 18 and 19). Eclipse is presented as part of the 22nd annual “Black Dance -- USA: A Celebration in Movement,” a five-day festival that includes classes in various styles of dance as well as the concert.
