Exposing the Underworld

Eurydice gets a voice

So he tried to save his darling Eurydice from Hades — a daring gesture indeed — but, alas, he didn't quite achieve that goal. Poor Orpheus! Wait, poor Orpheus? What about poor Eurydice? After all, she's the one who died! Sarah Ruhl's play Eurydice tells the story from the title character's point of view, giving a new perspective to this Greek myth. The Orange Girls open the 2009 season with Eurydice, playing at 8 p.m. Thursday through Saturday and at 2 p.m. Sunday (February 26 through March 15) at the Center of Creative Arts (524 Trinity Avenue, University City). Tickets to the comedy cost $18 to $20 (at 314-520-9557 or, but you can be admitted for $15 if you bring personal-care items to a Saturday performance — these will be donated to Karen House, a short-term shelter for women and their children.
