The Red Bull Music Academy is to electronica and hip-hop what Juilliard is to jazz and classical. It's elite (about 3,000 artists applied least year; only 60 were selected), it's enriching ("The most original and creative minds in music come together to share ideas, work on tunes, and perform in the best vibe-filled venues," the program's website boasts), and it has produced a legion of successful alumni, including local standout Black Spade. Though held in a different city each year (London hosts in 2010), traveling workshops and information sessions take place regularly around the globe. On Thursday St. Louis gets its turn. LA producer Exile (Ghostface Killah, Jurassic 5) leads a panel that includes Black Spade and Rockwell Knuckles. Complimentary appetizers and drinks are also included. Still not convinced? Performances by all three artists mentioned conclude the seminar.
