Treasures from The Schmidt’s permanent collection of objects from Papua New Guinea make a rare appearance in “Function & Ceremony: The Art of Melanesia.” The collection includes costumes and masks, canoe prows, spirit boards and food bowls. Artist Paula Haniszewski brings paintings that explore the ideas of personal, professional and political transformation in the contemporary American landscape in “Smile Like You Mean It.” Typewriter Tim, who is St. Louis artist Tim Jordan, brings his exhibition “Zen and the Art of Typewriter Tim.” His art incorporates glass, typewriters and typewriter parts.
