An all-media juried exhibition exploring the abstract elements of art: line, shape, form, space, texture, value, and/or color. Romanticism, Impressionism and Expressionism were three art movements that contributed to the development of abstract art. Artistic independence for artists was advanced during the 19th century. Fast forward to the 21st century where abstraction remains very much in view. Juror Claire Ashley, Adjunct Associate Professor of Contemporary Practices, Drawing and Painting at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago, selected works that explore abstraction and contemporary themes in a variety of medias. Exhibit is on view through January 2, 2016.
