Eco-Disco

Saturday night conservation fever

As a musical genre, disco has made the full orbit from ubiquitous to object of derision and back again to fond acceptance. And while the highly danceable music is great, disco fashion is even better: Who can't get down with big hair, big shoes and flammable poly-blend fabrics? Come relive the glory of the '70s at the Saint Louis Zoo's 2008 Zootini: Stayin' Alive fundraiser. The party takes place at 8 p.m. at the zoo (1 Government Drive in Forest Park) and features live music (by My Friend Mike, pictured, the Ultraviolets and DJ Andrew Mullins) as well as special Zootini-themed cocktails. The dress code is upscale and hip, though patrons are encouraged to add some '70s kitsch to their outfits — Barry Gibb-style white suits and feathered hair may be a good place to start. Tickets are $35 in advance and $45 at the door ($75 to $80 for VIP entrance), and the admission fee covers your first two drinks and free reign over the hors d'oeuvres.
