Eat Smart

At the time of its release, the teenage punk zombie flick Return of the Living Dead marked the dawn of a second decade of flesh-eating undead ghouls on the silver screen. Interestingly enough, its unrelated but original predecessor Night of the Living Dead created a universe of zombies that fed on flesh, but ROTLD introduced the brains-only diet that was later hilariously depicted in the third Simpsons' Treehouse of Horror ("Dial Z for Zombies"). Return's campy style of gas-induced zombification and chatty undead opened up a new world of possibilities for those in fear of losing their mortality. Plus, it has a fairly solid soundtrack and the special effects are up to the golden Orion Films (RoboCop!) standard. Return of the Living Dead screens at 7:30 p.m. in the Moore Auditorium on Webster University's campus (470 East Lockwood Avenue; 314-968-7487 or www.webster.edu/filmseries). Admission is $5 to $6.
