Eat, Dance, Laugh

The Grecian formula for happiness

Over the past few millennia, the Greeks have given us so much to Western civilization– The Odyssey, the Olympics, ouzo, John Stamos and mounds of shaved lamb meat. It’s time to pay homage to Greece’s proud heritage at the annual St. Nicholas Greek Festival, held over Labor Day weekend (Saturday, August 30 through Monday, September 1) at St. Nicholas Greek Orthodox Church (4967 Forest Park Boulevard). The festival begins 11 a.m. daily, and features a renowned smorgasbord of delicacies such as lamb shanks and spanakopita. Once sated on the always-savory dishes, swoon to the sounds of Bouzouki Pete as he romances his long-necked mandolin. Folk dancing demonstrations take place bi-hourly at two stages, and the marketplace features Greek staples such as olive oil and grape leaves as well as non-edible souvenirs (miniature icons and t-shirts).
