Dress Up, Get Down

When planning what to wear for an evening of good times (and a late bedtime), ladies especially take many factors into account. They consider whom they're partying with, what types of bars they're going to, how much walking/dancing could be involved, what they wore out last weekend and so much more. It's a challenging process, we can assure you, which is why events such as 13 Plagues serve as a welcome relief. Held at the Koken Art Factory (2500 Ohio Avenue; www.kokenartfactory.com) starting at 7 p.m. on Friday, August 13, this self-described music and art masquerade encourages folks to don wild and crazy costumes of any sort and come prepared for a diverse evening of entertainment. There will be music from Oakland's Beats Antique, locals Brown Bottle Fever and others, plus all manner of art (from more than 50 artists), vendors, belly dancing and more. Admission costs $15 in advance and $20 at the door, and pay just $5 the next night (Saturday, August 14) to check out the art only.
