Do You Believe in Magic?

Somewhere along the way, Halloween lost its magic, at least in the eyes of Ms. Day. She used to adore donning a costume and trick-or-treating during her school days — and dressing up and hitting the bars in her more mature years. But in this, the prime of her, um, mid-twenties (or something like that), she has found that Halloween has become a meh holiday, much like Valentine's Day and Columbus Day. That is, Halloween seemed lame until last year when she attended the annual Keith Jozsef Halloween Magic Spectacular. This guy knows how to put the magic back in the hair-raising holiday season — literally. Jozsef works mesmerizing sleight-of-hand and eye-defying illusion acts into an evening of entertainment and showmanship. This year's spectacular takes place at 7:30 p.m. at the Center of Creative Arts (524 Trinity Avenue, University City), and members of the public aren't the only folks invited: Jozsef will try to conjure the spirit world, too. Oh, spooky! Tickets to this festive, fun night out cost $20 to $25 (at www.brownpapertickets.com), which certainly is a small price to pay to have your mind blown and to have your Halloween spirits lifted.
