Dent May & His Magnificent Ukulele

9 p.m. Saturday, May 16. Blueberry Hill's Duck Room, 6504 Delmar Boulevard, University City.

They say you should never judge a book by its cover, but the title of Dent May's debut album really says it all. The Good Feeling Music of Dent May & His Magnificent Ukulele is, as you might expect, a blithely sentimental collection of throwback whimsy and mellifluous lounge ditties. May is a somewhat unlikely addition to Animal Collective's Paw Tracks label, but the bespectacled crooner from the state of Mississippi is hoping that his doo-wop melodies and nebbish naiveté will allow him to charm and strum his way into the hearts of uke-lovin' softies everywhere. You may fault him for kitsch, you may fault him for schmaltz, but you could never fault him for false advertising.
