Damaging Footage

Amy Granat creates experimental films on 16mm stock that is then transferred to DVD, which better allows the viewer to experience just how she manipulates the film. Scratching it, burning it, dousing it with bleach and other damaging materials, Granat exploits the potential of film as a physical medium as well as one that can transmit light and motion. She returns to her native St. Louis for the solo exhibition of her cinematic art, Amy Granat, which opens with a free public reception from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, September 8, at White Flag Projects (4568 Manchester Avenue; www.whiteflagprojects.org). The show remains on display through Saturday, October 22, and the gallery is open Tuesday through Saturday.
Tuesdays-Saturdays. Starts: Sept. 8. Continues through Oct. 22, 2011
