Vera Joseph is a 91-year-old Greenwich Village resident who just had the worst happen: She's acquired a roommate. Well, it's not that bad. The roommate is her grandson Leo, and he's only staying for a bit. He has just ridden his bicycle cross-country for reasons that are as unclear to Vera as they are to him. At 21 years old, Leo's experiencing something of an early-life crisis. While he's trying to figure out what he's supposed to be doing with his life, Vera has to deal with the same issue, only on a much tighter deadline -- being 91 leaves little time for existential crises. Amy Herzog's play 4000 Miles examines the key differences between growing up and growing old, and how wisdom comes only through striving. The Repertory Theatre of St. Louis presents 4000 Miles Tuesday through Sunday (January 16 through February 3) in the Emerson Studio Theatre at the Loretto-Hilton Center (130 Edgar Road, Webster Groves; 314-968-4925 or Tickets are $39 to $60.
