Cross Canadian Ragweed

8 p.m. Thursday, January 25. VooDoo Lounge at Harrah's Casino (777 Casino Center Drive, Maryland Heights).

Dumb down, tighten up and Oklahoma-fy the Drive-By Truckers, and you have Cross Canadian Ragweed — or so say cynics who forget that this Southern-rock touring machine hit the road two years before the Truckers and has sold ten times as many albums without a significant radio hit. Who needs Clear Channel when you have Texas — where the band's threatened Pat Green's cult-like hold on the fraternal order with John Cougar swagger, not-too-heavy metal hooks and outlaw name-dropping (they love Dimebag Darrell almost as much as Ray Wylie Hubbard)? No band needs a third live album, but even at an overly long two discs, last year's Back to Tulsa kicks like a bronco out to stud in beer-drunk filly paradise.
