Cowboy Up

We're not even a week into the new year and already Super-8 Movie Madness is back in the saddle. The long-running Super-8 film series starts the next leg of its journey with a tribute to cowboy movies, both classic and ridiculous. On the classic end of the scale are Once Upon A Time in the West (starring Henry Fonda as a bad guy, and Charles Bronson as a mostly-good guy), The Magnificent Seven (starring everybody) and Paul Newman and Robert Redford in Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid. The ridiculous comes (as it always does) from Mel Brooks, with his legendary cowboy spoof, Blazing Saddles. The non-western portion of the program also skews a little zany, with an installment of the British live-action, marionette-adventure show Thunderbirds, and the soft-core flick The Italian Stallion, starring Sylvester Stallone and his "little pugilist." The show starts at 8 p.m. tonight at the Way Out Club (2525 South Jefferson Avenue; 314-664-7638), and admission is $3. [EDITOR'S NOTE: Postponed from January 7 to January 14 because of the snow.]
