Tasty paintings

Today for lunch, instead of trekking to the vending machine for an orange snack and then staring at the landscape that is your desk, have a look at Gustave Courbet's superior landscape paintings. This nineteenth-century French artist and his works are the topic of conversation at 12:15 p.m. at the J.C. Penney Conference Center at the University of Missouri-St. Louis (1 University Drive at Natural Bridge Road) when the Saint Louis Art Museum's curator of modern art, Charlotte N. Eyerman, drops by for a lunchtime talk. Her hourlong lecture, as well as all of the others that make up the Monday Noon Series, is free; for more information on the cultural presentations, call 314-516-5699 or visit www.umsl.edu/~conted/mondaynoon.
