Confronting Constraints and Blurring Boundaries

The titles "Blur" and "Over the Edge" recall a certain '90s Britpop band and a film about a pack of troubled youths. They'll be re-purposed for two concurrent exhibitions opening at Art Saint Louis (555 Washington Avenue; 314-241-4810 or artstlouis.org). All of the 74 multimedia pieces on display as part of Blur include some aspect of abstraction or obscurity, whether it's a literal, visual blur or a hazy view of a concept or theme. Over the Edge spotlights local painters who prolifically explore the far boundaries of the canvas. Both exhibits open with a reception featuring live music by Silk Pajamas Jazz Duo and food from Completely Sauced and Cha Cha Chow from 6 to 8 p.m. on Saturday, June 9. The event is free, but bring cash to partake in the food trucks' treats.
