Composition and Decomposition

by

For as long as art has been appreciated, archivists have sought to preserve the work of artists who had more on their minds than making sure their muse was scribbled down on acid-free paper. Billed as a conservator's nightmare, White Flag Projects' new exhibition, Another Kind of Vapor, features a collection of a transient, ephemeral art that is here today but may be gone tomorrow. Participating artists Iain M. Baxter, Jennifer West and others leave the oils behind and turn to chocolate sauce, ketchup, Pepto-Bismol and peanut butter to bring their ideas to life. The art will be at its freshest during the opening reception from 7 to 10 p.m. Saturday, June 18, at the White Flag Projects Gallery (4568 Manchester Avenue; 314-531-3442 or www.whiteflagprojects.org). The work remains on display — and in decay — through Saturday, July 23. The gallery is open Wednesday through Saturday.
Wednesdays-Saturdays. Starts: June 18. Continues through July 23, 2011
