Chuck Berry

9 p.m. Wednesday, August 17. Blueberry Hill, 6504 Delmar Boulevard, University City.

Unlike so many other architects of rock & roll, Chuck Berry has stuck around long enough to tell his story and reap the rewards of being an undisputed game-changer. His monthly performances at Blueberry Hill are so clockwork regular that it's shamefully easy to take them for granted, but this month's show is a special one. Harry Weber's eight-foot bronze statue of Berry has just been unveiled across Delmar from Blueberry Hill, and it captures the legend in the midst of his signature duck walk. Americans normally use statues for a postmortem, but this time we honor rock's founding father while he's still enjoying his legacy onstage.
