Chills and Thrills and More Chills

Hey, there. Remember when we rolled up all of the city's streets, packed up the buildings and moved everything much, much farther north, to the coldest, snowiest tundra? Yeah? Well, before we box everything up again and head back south, there are still some important cold-weather celebrations that we must attend to. Take this weekend's Polar Plunge. Held at the Tremayne Shelter at Creve Coeur Park's Sailboat Cove (13725 Marine Avenue, Maryland Heights), this wintertime event benefits the very cool Special Olympics Missouri and offers an Olympic-size challenge for all attendees: Plungers shall don costumes and dunk themselves in the ever-so-chilly Creve Coeur Lake -- you think you have Olympic fever now, just wait to see how hot you are after that dip! To get in on the frosty fun, raise at least $75 from friends and family, and head to the park for lunch pre-plunge; check-in starts at noon, and the glacial good times get going at 2 p.m. To register and to learn more about Special Olympics Missouri's athletic programs, pay a visit to www.somo.org/plunge.
