The deepening flirtation between hip-hop and indie-pop is giving the somewhat loaded term "rock-rap" a whole different connotation, as Philly's Chiddy Bang demonstrates. Fresh of face and ideas — thoughtful rhymes over a sampled bouillabaisse drawn from both MGMT and Mary Poppins — teenagers Chidera "Chiddy" Anamege and DJ Xaphoon Jones (a.k.a. Noah Beresin) quickly went from Drexel University to a major-label record deal. A highly touted mixtape and Top Ten British single, "Opposite of Adults (Kids)," have created major buzz for the duo's Virgin/EMI debut, which is due later this summer.
