Catch His Drift

New paintings by Timothy Wagner

comment
Timothy Wagner is an abstract artist whose paintings typically feature a muted color palette and intersecting slashes of a brighter color, such as pink or white. His more recent work, however, eschews the perpendicular marks for bubbling fields of latex and acrylic paint; there's something primal about these pieces, looking as they do like raw lava or perhaps horribly corroded metal. Wagner displays a selection of his paintings in a one-man show, Drifting: Timothy Wagner, in the upstairs gallery at Subterranean Books (6275 Delmar Boulevard, University City; 314-862-2362 or www.subbooks.com). Drifting opens with a free public reception from 7 to 9 p.m. Friday, August 8. The show remains up through Sunday, September 14.
