Bye Bye Bye

In the early days of Elvis Presley's stardom, well before he was "the King," singer Conway Twitty presented a rock & roll rival to the throne. Time saw Twitty delve into country music, but in 1957, when Presley was drafted by the U.S. Army, the careers of both men were uncertain. In 1960 Bye Bye Birdie debuted on Broadway, unfurling the story of fictional rock star Conrad Birdie, a singer whose recent army draft lands him on one last promotional stint before shipping off.
