To paraphrase the Mountain Goats, Brave Combo is the best-ever accordion-toting band out of Denton, Texas. For almost 30 years, the quintet has preserved the polka in all its oompah-pah glory while convincing rock & roll audiences that it's OK to dance again. The horns, a dominant backbeat and bandleader Carl Finch's squeezebox make the group a nonstop party machine. Brave Combo also cuts across cultures to get feet moving; whether its dance of choice is the cha-cha, waltz or two-step, the band gets to the heart of the groove. The title of the upcoming album, The Exotic Rocking Life, gives a good thumbnail sketch of Brave Combo's legacy, while the mix of classics and new songs should give a nice career overview for these polka-loving rock & roll lifers.
