Brand New

8 p.m. Wednesday, November 1. Mississippi Nights (914 North First Street).

It's been three years since Brand New, elder statesmen of the Long Island music scene, unleashed the jaw-droppingly mature Deja Entendu, a massive sophomore jump whose churning rhythms, shout-along choruses and lengthy, self-effacing song titles inspired legions of frenetic, touchy-feely emo-pop pretenders (we're looking at you, Panic! At the Disco). But since then, vague rumors of multiple hospitalizations, tentative recording dates — and not much else — have emerged from the Brand New camp. Pressured to deliver a worthy follow-up, the notoriously enigmatic Jesse Lacey and company needed ten months and a relocation to Oxford, Mississippi, to complete their November 21-released album, The Devil and God Are Raging Inside Me. What'll this third effort sound like? Good question. Do, however, expect the atmosphere at this hastily announced headlining date to maintain fever pitch.
