Boot-Scootin' Opera

Just like good ol' Bugs Bunny piqued our interest in opera (specifically by hilariously making salad on Elmer Fudd's head in "Rabbit of Seville"), so, too, will Joshua's Boots stir up the operatic love in today's young people. This work, commissioned and presented by Opera Theatre of Saint Louis, takes place back in the Wild West, just after emancipation. Joshua, a young African American man, heads out there, seeking adventure and a fresh start and finding his own heroism to boot. With its entertaining overtones and educational undertones, kids are sure to have a rootin'-tootin' good time, especially because they are encouraged to break out the cowboy and cowgirl costumes for the show! Joshua's Boots, recommended for grades four to twelve, is staged at 7 p.m. this evening at the Touhill Performing Arts Center on the University of Missouri-St. Louis campus (1 University Drive at Natural Bridge Road). Tickets cost $12 and are available through 314-516-4949 or
