Bombshells over Soulard

Once, the official start of the holiday season was marked by the arrival of the celebrity-hosted, holiday-themed variety show. An hourlong special packed with comedy, kooky guest stars, seasonally appropriate songs and an overwhelming feeling of excitement for Christmas, the holiday variety show has long since vanished from television airwaves. But that's not to say you can't find a variety show when you need one: The Bombshell Betties present "Country Christmas" tonight at 9 p.m. at Mad Art (2727 South 12th Street; 314-771-8230 or www.thebombshellbetties.com). The living glamour dolls who are the Betties ring in the season with a little live music (courtesy of Trigger 5), a little mistletoe and a whole lotta boom-chikka-boom-style burlesque (tasteful, yet sexy). Tickets are $10, a smidgen of Hanukkah spirit is provided by your host, Fran Schwartz, and rumors of a Santa Claus appearance have been bandied about. You bring the nice, he'll show up; the Bombshell Betties are definitely bringing enough naughty for everyone, so mature audiences only, please.
