Bomb the Music Industry!

Starting in 2004 as a solo bedroom project for frontman Jeff Rosenstock after the dissolution of his popular ska band the Arrogant Sons of Bitches, Bomb The Music Industry! has grown into a full-on touring rock band, one that still gives away its potential primary source of income — recorded music — for free. Rosenstock has recorded five full-lengths under the BTMI! moniker, each for a shoestring budget and each posted online at quoteunquoterecords.com as a free download. Recent years have seen the band's catalog issued on vinyl, and its most recent album, this year's Scrambles, was released by Asian Man Records on a compact disc. (Hear that? That's the sound of a thousand keyboard cowboys tapping out, "The early shit was better — y'know, before he sold out," on their local message board of choice.) The thing is, they're wrong: Rosenstock's knack for combining ska, synth, pop, punk and rock is downright preternatural and is well worth your attention (and hard drive space). — Scott Heisel
