Blondes Have Always Had More Fun

Little House on the Prairie took up a chunk of the TV-watching lives of many, including little Miss Day. Even while Day loved Melissa Gilbert's Laura and hated her nemesis, Nellie Oleson, right along with her, Day secretly loved Nellie, too. Her hair and clothes always looked divine, especially considering the lack of air conditioning and curling irons, and she ruled the roost around her house — and isn't being the boss what we all really want? In Confessions of a Prairie Bitch: How I Survived Nellie Oleson and Learned to Love Being Hated, Alison Arngrim recounts her days playing Nellie and shares behind-the-scenes Little House stories. When the author and standup comic comes to the Schlafly branch of the St. Louis Public Library (225 North Euclid Avenue; 314-367-4120 or www.slpl.org) at 7 p.m. to discuss and sign Confessions, Day looks forward to hearing Arngrim's take on the beloved series and plans to find out if too-too-sweet Mary was really the bitch (she just seemed too good to be true) and whether or not that terrible clown/Sylvia episode (shudder) terrified even the actors on the show. Books will be sold at the event, courtesy of Left Bank Books ($25.99), and only those purchased from the book shop will be signed.
