Bizarre Love Triangle(s)

So, you think Shakespeare’s Twelfth Night; or, What You Will has the cross-dressing, laughable-love and general-romantic-mayhem markets cornered, right? Ha! In the late seventeenth century, Sor Juana Inés de la Cruz threw down with House of Desires. Not only was de la Cruz an intellectual, but she was a nun, too! Already hot, yes? Plus her work is pretty progressive, as it delves into gender-bender politics and pokes around with some pointed questions. Throw in some machinations, corsets, wooing and confusion, and you’ve got a nun playwright stirring up comedic trouble. If your girlfriend dug the Oscar-winning couture of Marie Antoinette, she’ll flip for this production, put on by Washington University’s Performing Arts Department. House of Desires is staged at 8 p.m. Friday and Saturday and at 2 p.m. Sunday (April 13 through 22) at the Edison Theatre (6445 Forsyth Boulevard; 314-935-6543 or Tickets cost $9 to $15.
Fridays-Sundays. Starts: April 13. Continues through April 22
