Beware of BOB

The delightfully warped visionary David Lynch went for broke when he made a TV show. Twin Peaks was at times a taut murder-mystery, a surreal nightmare, a grim-eyed look at small-town America — and that doesn't even include the dream dwarf, the occasional music video interlude or the Zen master/pie-loving FBI agent Dale Cooper, played with slightly deranged straight-man fervor by Kyle MacLachlan. The Webster Film Series screens the pilot episode of this groundbreaking series at 7:30 p.m. this evening in the Moore Auditorium on Webster University's campus (470 East Lockwood Avenue; 314-968-7487 or Watch as lonely fisherman Pete (Jack Nance) finds the plastic-wrapped body of Laura Palmer on the riverbank, setting off a wave of destruction and insanity that sweeps through the tiny hamlet of Twin Peaks, Washington, and overturns the social, political and romantic order. More than twenty years later, it all still feels ahead of its time. Tickets are $4 to $6.
