You know you've found a great bookstore the moment you lose yourself in it, and it's certainly easy to get lost in Dunaway Books. The muted lighting has a make-yourself-at-home vibe and encourages extended marathons of bargain book-hunting, which is good since the narrow aisles here are stuffed with used novels, biographies, poetry anthologies, antique volumes and every imaginable subgenre in between. The staff is happy — excited, really — to help find what you're searching for, but that might not even be necessary: The books are meticulously sorted, sub-sorted, marked and alphabetized. Even the restroom is eclectic and homey, its walls plastered floor to ceiling with found bookmarks of every kind (photographs, prayer pamphlets, ticket stubs, receipts). Just as it seems the rows and rows of book spines have been thoroughly picked through and your searching is done, a staircase at the side of the store leads to the basement, which brims with aisles of poetry, literary criticism, foreign- language works and more.
