Why do we like KMOV-TV (Channel 4)? Because the station hasn't forgotten its roots. While other St. Louis channels trim local content for syndicated shows and reruns, KMOV offers five hours of local programming Monday through Friday. That's two hours of morning news, an hour of Great Day St. Louis mid-morning, the noon news and the conventional 5, 6 and 10 p.m. newscasts. Speaking of news, KMOV gets it right. Led by investigative reporter Craig Cheatham, Channel 4 actually practices some real journalism instead of simply following the police scanner to the latest shooting or house fire. But perhaps the biggest reason we love KMOV is the guilty pleasure of watching St. Louis Country (line dancing broadcast from Wild Country, a bar in Collinsville, Illinois). Now, that's local television at its finest.
