You know a thrift store is prime when your lips get numb within five minutes of entering the place. Every branch of Value Village could have this dangerous side effect: There's just so much exciting stuff in stock, you simply can't forget to bring a paper bag to assist with breathing during the inevitable hyperventilation. Plus, the stores are all clean and well organized, so you can see the goods without too much scrounging. On a recent fact-finding mission at the Value Village outlet on Natural Bridge Road, we found a mid-century modern valet chair, five (plug-ugly but darn funny) macramé craft books, a fondue pot with all its forks, two bolts of surprisingly attractive upholstery fabric and a stack of professional wrestling magazines. There are racks and racks of clothing as well, all arranged according to color and stage of life, from baby onesies to teen jeans to old-lady girdles. As a bonus, the staffers are friendly and helpful: If an item hasn't been priced, they'll tell you what it costs on the spot without a big song and dance.
