If you watch enough televised tennis, you might get the impression that it is one of those upper-crust sports like water polo or dressage. All those people clapping politely, dressed in suits and hats, eating strawberries and cream? That's the height of athletic elitism. Luckily, St. Louis has no shortage of public tennis courts, so the rest of us can work on our backhands. Tucked away on the southern edge of the Hill, Sublette Park boasts four courts (as well as other ball fields and a playground). Rarely crowded, and illuminated until about 10 p.m. most nights, the courts mirror the ragged-but-right feel of the little park itself.
