Central Table Food Hall

With the overwhelming array of choices laid out before patrons of Central Table Food Hall, it can be difficult to focus on just one thing. Of course, that's the whole point of this 10,000-square-foot Central West End behemoth: Take the trend of the food-hall concept (examples are Eataly in New York City and Los Angeles' Umamicatessen) and create a space that caters to the whims of all types of diners. Central Table is a market, coffee shop, wine bar, raw bar, and hearth and grill, but the sushi bar especially stands out. Eliott Harris (formerly the sushi chef at the late Miso on Meramec, now the owner of the Chop Shop food truck) consulted on the comprehensive sushi menu which combines expertly executed staples with creative specialty rolls. The sashimi and nigiri are as fresh as one can get. The maguro tuna and yellow tail positively melt in the mouth. The papasan roll mingles sweet, cool and spicy as it combines snow crab, cucumber, avocado and yamagobo, and that's just the inside. The roll is then topped with striped bass, jalapeño, chile mayo, tobiko and ponzu sauce. It's a sushi extravaganza that's emblematic of the restaurant as a whole — a little bit of something for everyone.
