Sportman's Park in Ladue is a less than ideal place to host a fantasy-football draft. For starters, it doesn't give a jot about teams that aren't our own, and there are only a handful of tables in the bar area — it'd be a little cramped for you and your drunk friends to be bickering over quarterbacks. Sportman's charm lies in its intimacy and nostalgia; it's the kind of place where the day's newspaper and free baskets of popcorn take up room at the bar, and bartenders know patrons by name. Much like its regulars, some of the memorabilia is a little yellowed and dated and has probably been there since the bar opened 40 years ago. History's important within these four walls: Check out the Cardinal family tree up on the wall right when you walk in — it stretches all the way back to the St. Louis Brown Stockings. Framed newspaper articles trumpet the Rams' glory days, and there are autographed Blues jerseys and reverent nods to Jack Buck and Old Busch Stadium. It's got an impressive menu (the burgers knock it out of the park), and lots of great deals are to be had during happy hour, from 3 to 6 p.m. Monday through Friday. Sportman's is a team player with heart — what else can a St. Louis fan ask for?
